GOOD verses EVIL

I do not believe in the concept of an all knowing all good God verses an evil Satan. I believe that the world is made up of energy, dualities and opposites. There is light and dark, yin and yang, pain and joy, building and destruction, order and chaos, life and death. There cannot be one without the other. In as much as we know joy we know pain. In this way I cannot clearly state that one is better than the other. I can only state that they are different, opposites and that it is our particular position in the world at any given time that makes up our judgment of such things.

If I am a tree on the banks of a river and that river overflows to drown and rot my roots yet the rain continues to come, I might curse the rain. I might say, "Sun, you are good, come and save me. Rain you are bad, you are the enemy." If I am a tree in the desert and on the verge of dying from lack of water I might curse the sun. I might say, "Rain you are good, come and save me. Sun you are bad, you are the enemy."

The lesson in this is that neither the sun nor the rain is wholly good or bad. Either one out of balance with the other can cause death and destruction, but in equal propitiations according to the needs of the tree are the blessing that gave it life in the first place. Neither can form intent to nurture or destroy, they do what they do according to their nature, according to laws that are not under their direct control.

But, I am not a tree, nor am I the rain or the sun. I am a human being, based in part in nature, the nature of instinct, but with a twist. With a brain that allows me to think and choose and direct my own behavior. There are no rights without responsibility, no action that allows cause without affect. This I take to heart and apply to my thoughts as well as my actions.
