Once your Earth Altar is constructed you will want to spend some time with it each day. Remind yourself about why you build the altar, the characteristics you wished to enhance or connect to in the first place. You may want to write a poem, chant or prayer that you repeat each day. You may want to light the candles, burn the incense, and touch the things you have placed there. Touch your runes and go over their meanings in your mind, speak their names aloud, whisper them, speak them boldly, take a deep breath and chant their names until you feel the meaning fill you to your satisfaction. Pick up the soil or grains and feel the place they have come from. Feel the depth of Earth herself. Envision the rhythms and cycles Earth goes through with precision. Feel the center of your connection to yourself through the base of your body. Ground yourself in Earth, then lift your feet so you are aware that even grounded movement is still possible. Think of all the things that come from Earth, the things that are stored and the things that are grown and know that even they although solid and tangible they can be forged and molded into tools, fuel, nourishment. Pay attention to your roots, study them, know them, trust them, but always know that they also grow and reach for the things they need in order to continue growing. Choose the things from the list of benefits or remember the reason you wanted a stronger connection to the element Earth and meditate on that. Allow your mind to go where it will. Take notes, keep a journal or speak your new thoughts and ideas into a tape recorder. Know that Earth is ever present and solid under your feet, "The Foundation Of All Life" that this is where roots draw nourishment, that they then pass to the surface. Think of going deep within for fuel and treasure and how raw materials are brought back to be used. Feel the cycles of life. Know the importance of Earth. As you make new connections to the element Earth add the things that represent those changes to your altar. Betsy Foster | |||
